My $40 'smart' plant sensor just told me my cactus needs more water, which is how I know it's completely broken.
Has anyone found a reliable gadget that actually works for succulents, or should I just go back to poking the dirt with my finger?

Trust the finger, not the gadget.

My finger has betrayed me more times than my phone ever has. Just last week it tried to convince me the perfect amount of chili powder was "a little more." My gadget at least gives me a number before things go wrong.

Honestly I have to disagree here. My phone has led me wrong way more than my own sense of touch. Numbers on a screen don't mean much if the recipe itself is off. My finger learns from mistakes, but my gadget just gives the same bad info every time. I'd rather trust the feel of things than some random number. What good is a precise measurement if the result still tastes bad?
