She pointed out I was using the wrong gauge wire for the height of my determinate varieties, so after swapping to 8-foot concrete mesh I doubled my yield this August, anyone else ever get gardening advice from a random neighbor that actually worked?

Concrete mesh is the real deal for tomatoes, I swapped to 7-foot cages after my neighbor Joe told me my bamboo stakes were a joke during a storm last year. It made a huge difference with my Roma plants since they could climb without bending everything over. Sometimes the old-timers just know what works better than any online guide.

You got the concrete mesh from a hardware store or did you cut it down yourself? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle over just buying pre-made cages.
