Unpopular opinion: my loyalty to one grocery store broke the second a cashier told me I was doing it wrong
I used to be the guy who would drive past two closer stores to get to the same grocery chain every week, rain or snow, for about 3 years. It was partly habit and partly that I knew where every single thing was, aisle 7 for pasta, back corner for the cheap milk. Then one Sunday in March a cashier I had never seen before scanned my stuff and said flat out, "You know you are paying about $30 more a month just to park in the same lot, right?" I laughed it off, but that night I pulled up my last two months of receipts and she was right, it was closer to $40. So I tried the store two blocks from my place for a month, and yeah, it was fine. The layout was weird for a week or two, but the prices on the stuff I buy most were lower and the produce was honestly fresher. What surprised me is how much of my loyalty was really just me not wanting to learn a new store map. Now I split between two places and I feel kind of dumb about the 3 years I spent being stubborn. Does anyone else stick with a brand mostly because you know where everything is, not because it is actually better?
