Got kicked off a job in Newark on Tuesday because my mortar was too wet
So I show up Tuesday morning to this commercial job in Newark, big retaining wall, about 900 blocks. My laborer mixed the mortar while I set up and it looked a little loose but I said screw it lets go. By block 40 the guy running the site, a real cranky dude named Sal, walks over and starts poking the joints with his trowel. He tells me to tear out the last two courses and remix or pack my stuff. I argued for a minute but he was right, the mud was sliding out and the wall was gonna lean. Cost me about 3 hours and a whole batch of mortar, around $70 down the drain. How do you all tell your laborer the mix is off without sounding like a jerk? I need a better way to check it before it hits the board.
