Overpacked for a 3-day Rome trip, paid $45 in baggage fees I could've skipped
I flew out of JFK last month with a checked bag because I was scared of airline size limits. The carry-on I left at home would've fit in the overhead bin, and I lost $45 to the airline counter. Anyone else just leave the big suitcase behind?

What made you decide the checked bag was worth $45 in the first place? Was it more about the hassle of lugging it through the airport or just not trusting the overhead bin measurements?
