Warning: backpacker hostels in Prague are not as cheap as everyone says

I went to Prague last June thinking I'd save a ton on lodging like all the travel blogs claim. But I paid $35 a night for a dorm bed in a popular hostel near the old town square, and that's without breakfast or even a locker fee. The common room was packed with people doing the same thing, but the vibe felt more like a crowded hotel than a budget stay. I ended up spending more than I would have at a simple guesthouse in a smaller city like Brno. Next time I'm skipping the hype and finding a local pension instead. Has anyone else noticed Prague hostels aren't the steal they used to be?

Saw a video on YouTube last week where a guy broke down Prague hostel prices the last few years, and it's basically doubled since 2019. He was saying even the smaller hostels outside the center are charging $25+ now for a bunk. Honestly sounds like the secret got out and now everyone's trying to cash in. I'd try looking at hostels in Zizkov or Vinohrady next time, they're still a bit cheaper and more local.

My friend booked a hostel in Prague last fall thinking she'd scored a deal and ended up paying $12 extra just to store her bag while she waited for check-in lol. She swore she'd just stick to booking.com guesthouses from now on.
