My neighbor said his 'no spend month' was a total fail, but I think he's missing the point
I was talking to my neighbor Dave last week and he was really down. He tried a 'no spend month' where you only buy absolute needs, and he cracked on day 12 buying a video game. He called the whole thing a bust and said budgeting that strict is pointless. But I saw it different. For those 12 days, he packed lunch every day, didn't get takeout coffee, and fixed his bike instead of driving. That saved him real money, maybe $200! To me, a win isn't about being perfect, it's about the habits you build and the cash you keep. He focused on the one slip-up instead of the 11 days of good choices. Should a budget 'win' only count if you stick to the plan 100%, or is the progress and savings what really matters?

Calling a fail a win just lowers the bar.

Totally missing the point. My budget's a mess, I'd be stoked to last 12 hours. That's still 12 hours I didn't waste money.
