The Walmart cashier who showed me her envelope system
Last Tuesday I was in the checkout line in Akron and this cashier, maybe 60 years old, saw me wince at my grocery total. She pulled out a little fabric envelope with cash divided into labeled pockets, said she's been doing it since 2011 and pays zero credit card interest. I tried it for two weeks with a $50 eating out budget, and I only overspent once. Has anyone else gotten a budgeting tip from a random stranger that actually stuck?
