Heads up on those $25 'bullet journal starter kits' from Instagram ads
I bought one last month and it was a total waste. The pen bled through the thin paper, the ruler was flimsy plastic, and the stencils were just cheap plastic sheets you could print at home. I ended up having to buy a proper notebook and pens anyway, so I'm out the cash. Anyone know a good, actually basic setup that won't fall apart?

Total waste" seems a bit harsh for a $25 experiment. Mine worked fine for getting the habit started, the stencils were handy. Sometimes the cheap option is good enough to see if you'll stick with it.

Ugh, that's such a bummer and totally gets why you're frustrated. It's not just the money, it's the letdown when a product is nothing like the ad. I see what noah517 is saying about a cheap start, but a pen that bleeds through makes the whole thing unusable from day one. For a basic setup, a simple dotted notebook from the drugstore and a single pack of fine liners will last way longer.

My first bullet journal was a five dollar composition book and it taught me more about layout than any kit.
