My local library's bullet journal meetup made me ditch my weekly spread
I went to a bullet journal group at the Portland library about 6 months ago. Everyone there was showing off these super detailed weekly layouts with trackers and quotes. I felt like I had to make mine look just as full. But after a month, I was spending over an hour every Sunday setting it up and then never using half of it. It just made me avoid my journal. So I stopped. Now I just do a simple daily log with my rapid logging and maybe one collection if I need it. My journal is messy but I actually open it every day. Has anyone else found that simpler works better after trying the fancy stuff?

Wasn't that the whole point of the original system, to be fast? I totally get what you and @clark.robin mean about just decorating a to-do list. I fell into the same trap of making pretty weekly spreads that took forever. The fancy stuff just adds friction. If your system makes you avoid opening the book, it's broken. My rule now is if a spread takes more than five minutes to draw, it's probably not worth it.

Ever try just using a pencil? I switched back and it's way faster to fix mistakes when your daily log gets messy.
