Friday at 6pm our whole site went dark and I found out my failover was a lie
I set up a backup DSL line for our warehouse in Toledo last year and thought we were bulletproof. Last Friday evening, the main fiber got cut by a contractor digging near the road, and the router just sat there blinking red. Turns out the failover was configured on the wrong VLAN and never actually connected to the modem. I only found out because I happened to be there packing orders and saw the outage alert on my phone. That was 3 hours of no point-of-sale, no email, and customers waiting outside. Has anyone else tested their failover by actually unplugging the primary line? Because I'm doing that every quarter now.
