Dishwasher flooded my kitchen floor on Thursday and I'm still mopping
Had a three year old Kenmore that just decided to pump water out over the floor instead of down the drain, and now I'm looking at a $600 repair against a $700 replacement. Has anyone here dealt with a failed dw and just said screw it, bought new?

Can't believe a 3 year old machine is already giving you that kind of hassle. That's basically brand new in appliance years, seems like they don't build them to last anymore. I'd be steaming if I had to drop $600 on a fix for something that recent.

You said they don't build them to last anymore, and there's some truth to that. But here's something I don't think anyone's pointed out yet. A lot of these newer machines have sealed compressors and circuit boards that are basically designed to be swapped rather than fixed. So when something goes wrong, you're not paying for a repair, you're paying for a whole new part that costs almost as much as the machine. Three years does feel too soon, but I wonder if the real problem is that we're paying for fancy electronics we can't actually maintain. It's a tricky spot to be in.
