Looking back at my old phone reviews from 2019, I finally understood why they felt so flat.

I was just listing specs I read online until a viewer commented, 'Tell us how it feels to actually use it for a day in your pocket,' which made me realize I wasn't reviewing gadgets, I was just reading a manual out loud.

I used to think you needed a fancy coworking space to get work done

For my first year in Bali, I paid $300 a month for a spot at a trendy spot in Canggu... I felt like I had to be there to be a 'real' nomad. Then my visa run to Chiang Mai got extended, and I worked from my guesthouse balcony for two weeks. I got more done there, just with my laptop and some coffee, than I ever did in that noisy, expensive room. Now I only use a coworking space maybe once a week if I really need a printer. Anyone else find that the simpler setup actually works better for them?

Question about a 'right to be forgotten' request that took months

I asked a data broker to delete my info back in March. They said it would be done in 30 days. It's July now, and I'm still getting mail from companies that bought my old data. I had to file a complaint with my state's attorney general to get any real movement. Has anyone else had to fight this hard just to be removed from a list?

I switched from a bone folder to a Teflon folder for my leather work last month

I was working on a custom journal with some thin goat skin and kept seeing tiny marks from my bone folder. My friend in Seattle said to try a Teflon one, so I ordered a basic one for about $15. Now I use it for all my smooth leather projects and the creases are clean with no shine or scratches. Has anyone found a different tool that works better for delicate leather?

Serious question, I used to think board-level repair was a waste of time.

Three years ago at a shop in Phoenix, I'd just swap the whole logic board on a MacBook Pro. Last month, a client brought in a 2015 model with a dead backlight, and out of parts, I found a shorted capacitor near the display connector for the first time. Has anyone else had a simple fix totally change how they approach a common failure?

Switched from a 3-strand to a 12-strand climbing rope last season

I used the same old 3-strand for years, thinking it was fine. Got a Samson Hyperclimb 12-strand on a deal last fall. The difference in handling was huge right away, way less stiff and easier to tie. After about 6 months of daily use, I noticed my hands and arms weren't as tired at the end of a big removal. The splice runs smoother through my pulley too. Anyone else make a rope change that actually reduced fatigue?

A guy at a coffee shop in Denver gave me the best advice about asking questions

Honestly, I was working on a project at this cafe on Colfax last month, totally stuck on a problem. This older guy at the next table saw me looking upset and just said, 'The question you ask decides the answer you get.' He told me he used to be a teacher and saw people ask vague things like 'why is this hard?' and get nowhere. He said to always make your question point to a real action, like 'what is the first step to fix this error message?' instead. It changed how I post here. I write my questions way clearer now and get way better help. Has anyone else had a simple tip totally change how you ask for things?

After a ranger in Buena Vista suggested a 4-day loop in the Collegiate Peaks wilderness last fall, I realized the quiet routes are often better. Anyone have a favorite lesser-known path in that area?

After a local musician in Austin got wrongly accused of something last year, I saw how fast his gigs got pulled before the full story came out. Now I always wait at least 48 hours before I even form an opinion, anyone else do that?

Rant: Saw a genius use for old pallets at the community garden on Elm Street

I was walking my dog past the Elm Street community garden yesterday and saw they'd built a whole vertical herb wall out of old shipping pallets. They'd just leaned them against the fence, filled the gaps with soil, and planted mint, basil, and thyme in the slots. It looked great and used stuff most people just throw away. Has anyone else tried a setup like this with free materials?
