Rant: A three-day-old car battery dies and the store won't swap it

Picked up a new battery from AutoZone last Tuesday for my F-150. By Friday morning it was dead as a rock, wouldn't even light the dome light. Took it back same day and the guy says their policy is 24 hours for a free swap. I told him it was three days old and he just shrugged. Never had that happen before with a battery, anyone else get stuck with a bad one and no backup?

Wait, did you actually buy it from AutoZone or was it somewhere else? Because I've had pretty good luck with their warranty stuff before. Honestly though, 24 hours for a free swap is REAL weak for a car battery, even the cheap ones should last longer than that. I think what happened is they probably dated the battery when they sold it to you, and if it sat on the shelf for a few months before that, it could have been half dead already. You should try calling their customer service number, sometimes the store manager just follows the rule book but the company itself will make it right since it's clearly defective.

fr dude i saw a twitter thread the other day where a guy tested autozone batteries with a multimeter and like half of them were already below spec right off the shelf. definitely worth calling corporate over that.
