TIL most cheap HDMI cables perform exactly the same as expensive ones
I was about to drop $60 on a fancy HDMI cable at Best Buy last weekend for my new 4K TV. Then I looked up some tests online and found out that budget cables under $10 get the same signal for normal use up to 15 feet. I grabbed a $8 one from the clearance bin and it works perfect with no lag or quality loss. The guy at the electronics store kept pushing the premium brand and said I needed it for 4K. Now I know that's just a sales trick and I wasted $52 for nothing. Has anyone else fallen for this and realized it later?

Yeah, I guess I just paid extra for that premium sales pitch.

Actually, the weird thing is that the premium tier at my dealership only added about $1,200 to the base price, and that included the upgraded sound system with the subwoofer and the leather wrapped steering wheel. But then they tried to tack on a $3,000 "market adjustment" that wasn't even in the original sticker. I looked at the Monroney label after I got home and realized the premium package itself was pretty reasonable, it's all the other BS fees that made it feel like a scam. So you might have paid extra for the sales pitch itself, not the actual premium features.
