Let him figure it out himself, sometimes you just gotta learn the hard way.

Wow, nobody's brought up the noise factor yet? That chainsaw running for 20 minutes straight must have been driving the whole neighborhood crazy. Wet wood is twice as loud to cut and that dull chain just makes it worse, like a giant angry bee buzzing for no reason. Plus, the extra vibration from fighting the wood probably shook his whole arms and shoulders. I bet his hands were numb by the time you stepped in. Did you ask him if he had earplugs in, or was he just ignoring the obvious?

Honestly, that "giant angry bee" description is spot on. Reminds me of this buddy of mine, Dave, who thought he was a lumberjack after watching one YouTube video. He tried cutting down a wet, knotty pine branch in his backyard with a dull chain, and I swear you could hear that thing three blocks over. It was this horrible, grinding screech mixed with a low growl, and his whole body was shaking like he was wrestling a bear. By the time his neighbor came out and offered him a sharp blade, Dave's hands were so numb he could barely hold the saw, and he had this weird, buzzed-out look in his eyes. He finally took the tip, but not before admitting his ears were ringing for two days straight.
