Finally got the drawer slides right on a tricky built-in

Had to choose between undermount or side mount slides for a built-in next to a fireplace. The side mounts were cheaper and easier, but the client wanted that clean, hidden look. Went with the undermounts, spent an extra hour fitting them perfectly. Anyone have a good trick for getting the alignment spot on the first time?

Honestly, that extra hour is time well spent to avoid a callback. I once rushed a set of those on a pantry cabinet and the drawer would stick every single time you opened it halfway. The homeowner pointed it out every time I saw them for like a year. Now I just accept that the first try is really a practice run, and I'll probably have to shim or tweak something. That clean look is worth the headache up front.

You know what gets me, it's the quiet. A drawer that sticks halfway makes this awful little catch sound, and then you just hear the house go silent. That sound FOLLOWS you. Taking the extra time isn't just about the callback, it's about not leaving a little piece of your own annoyance in someone's home. You fix it for them, but you're really saving your own peace of mind later.

Wait, you got them perfect in just an extra hour? That's wild. Those undermount slides can be a nightmare to line up. Good on you for sticking with it for the client.
