Heard a contractor at the lumberyard say 'a cabinet is just a box'

It was a dismissive comment about our trade that really got under my skin. It ignores all the precision joinery, finishing, and design that goes into quality work. Has anyone else had to defend the craft like that?

Oh man, that's a wild oversimplification. A cardboard box is just a box. A cabinet needs perfect square corners, doors that hang right, and a finish that lasts. That contractor probably builds things that look fine from across the room.

Exactly what @perez.derek said. It's everywhere now, stuff built to just pass a quick look. Furniture, appliances, even houses. The details are what actually last, but nobody wants to pay for that time anymore. Makes you wonder what else around us is just a fancy cardboard box.

Even our phones are basically fancy cardboard boxes now.
