I read that a huge amount of wood movement happens in the first 72 hours after milling.

Found this in an old textbook from the 80s at a library sale. It said up to 70% of the initial dimensional change in a board can happen in those first three days. I always let wood acclimate for weeks in my shop, but I never knew the initial shift was that fast. Makes me rethink how I stack and sticker fresh lumber right off the saw. Has anyone else seen data on this specific early movement window?

Yeah, that's wild. I always figured it was a slow, steady thing over weeks. But I had a batch of maple last year that I milled on a Saturday, and by Tuesday some of the stickers were already pinched tight. I had to re-stack the whole pile. Makes you realize those first few days are way more critical than I gave them credit for.

Right? @drewsullivan, those first days are no joke.

Right, because nothing says "relaxing weekend" like watching your lumber shrink faster than a wool sweater in a hot dryer.
