Unpopular opinion: I think 3/4 plywood is way overrated for most cabinet boxes

I was at a supplier in Denver last week and the guy showed me the deflection stats comparing 1/2 to 3/4 and for standard base cabinets under 36 inches wide the difference was only like 2 percent so why are we all hauling around these heavy boxes.

That 2 percent difference seems pretty small until your countertop starts flexing weird after a few years.

My last kitchen remodel I went with the cheap laminate and now my countertop dips like a trampoline when I lean on it. Thought I was saving a buck, but really I just built myself a weird breakfast wobble board. @king.andrew you hit the nail on the head, that flex creeps up on you faster than my knees do after a weekend of yard work. It's a solid reminder that my DIY skills are better suited for hanging a picture than judging material specs.
