Hot take: A retired lineman told me I was crimping my coax wrong

Ran into this old timer at a supply house in Akron last Friday. He watched me put a connector on and said my compression tool technique was off. Said I was squeezing too fast and crushing the dielectric. Tried his slower method on the next job. Signal levels jumped 3 dB on the meter. Anyone else get a tip that made you re-think something basic?

My buddy tried that trick and said his signal went from fuzzy to crystal clear.

Reminds me of the time I wrapped my antenna in tin foil.

Funny how the little stuff matters so much! I was totally in the "just squeeze it good and move on" camp until I saw a similar tip from @thea_mitchell20 in that other thread. Now I'm all about that slow and steady approach too.
