My espresso machine died at 7:40am on a Saturday rush and I served drip to 30 regulars
The boiler on our 2016 La Marzocco gave out mid rush at the shop on Fairfax, so I ran to the back, grabbed the old Mr. Coffee from the office, and sold $2 drip refills with a free apology pastry to every person in line, and honestly half of them tipped extra out of pity, but has anyone else had a machine quit on the busiest morning of the month?
Man, the apology pastry is what really sells it. People can forgive bad coffee but they can't stay mad at free food, that was a smart save. I bet those regulars came back the next week just to see if you'd pull it off again. Did anyone actually say the drip was better?
Wait, you sold drip from a Mr. Coffee and people still tipped extra? That is wild to me. I would have expected at least a few jerks to demand a full refund or leave a nasty review about how their Saturday was ruined. The free pastry thing is smart though, food shuts people up faster than anything. How long did it take before the La Marzocco was back up and running? I bet you were sweating bullets watching that boiler die.
