Rant: A customer in my old Echo Park spot said something that stuck with me

I was chatting with a regular, Mark, who's been coming since we opened. He mentioned he missed the old chalkboard menu and the way we used to write the specials by hand. Said it felt more like a real place, not just a shop. It made me think about how much we streamlined things for speed, maybe lost a bit of the soul. Anyone else get a comment like that that made you pause?

Honestly, that sounds like pure nostalgia. The chalkboard was a pain to update and half the time the handwriting was a mess. A clear printed menu is way better for customers, they can actually read it and you don't waste time rewriting things. Speed and clarity keep the lights on, that's the real soul of a business.

But what if the time spent rewriting is part of the charm? That little bit of extra effort shows care, and customers notice that stuff. Maybe the soul isn't just about keeping the lights on.

Ever feel like you streamlined the soul right out of the place?
