Just realized I've cleaned 500 sensors and still can't explain why some people's cameras look like a dust farm
Hit sensor cleaning number 500 on my log sheet last Tuesday, a Canon 5D Mark III that looked like someone shook a bag of Cheetos inside it. Here's the thing nobody wants to hear: wet cleaning is not the fix for laziness, and half my repeat customers are just people who change lenses in a sandstorm and act surprised. I use a loupe and a $30 swab kit, not some $200 gel stick, and my comeback rate sits near zero. If your bench does 10 cleanings a month, you're either overcharging or your customers don't shoot enough, so which one is it for you guys?
Check your math on that 10 cleanings thing though. If a shop only does 10 a month that doesn't mean they're overcharging or their customers don't shoot. Plenty of markets are just small. A guy running a bench in a town of 20k people might do 8 cleanings a month and still be the only game around. That's not laziness on his end or price gouging, that's just population. The 500 number is solid work but using your volume as the bar for everyone else feels off. Some of us are busy, some of us are in slow towns, and neither one says much about skill.
