Eighty five bucks and it popped on night one? That sounds less like a gear problem and more like a bad batch or maybe you snagged it on a branch. I've used a $20 net from Walmart for three summers of trips and it's still holding up, so price clearly isn't the whole story. A hole at 2am might just mean you didn't hang it tight enough or something poked through. What were you tied off to out there?
