Drove 3 hours to Harriman State Park and the tent sites were packed like sardines
I get that it's peak season, but charging $45 a night for a spot where you can hear your neighbor snore is ridiculous. Has anyone found a quiet campground within 2 hours of NYC that actually spaces the sites out?

$45 a night for a spot closer to your neighbor than your own cooler is just the new normal for camping around here. It feels like everything's getting squeezed tighter, from school class sizes to subway cars to these "campsites" that are basically parking lots with dirt. If you want real space, you gotta head further north, past New Paltz, where the state forests are less crowded and you can actually breathe.

Man, @zarar67 you're hitting on something real there. When did "camping" become paying a premium to hear your neighbor's Bluetooth speaker at 11 PM while you're trying to sleep? I swear, some of these spots are so packed you could reach out and touch the tent next to you without even standing up. Is it really just the demand or are these campgrounds purposely shrinking the sites to squeeze in more people per acre?
