Overheard a guy at the trailhead say his $20 foam pad was warmer than his old inflatable...

He said it was after a cold night in the Adirondacks and he'd never go back. Has anyone else found a cheap pad that actually works well?

My old RidgeRest from the 90s still beats my fancy inflatable for pure warmth. That closed-cell foam just doesn't have air inside to get cold.

Yeah, that "air inside to get cold" thing is so true. My old blue foam pad still feels warmer than my newer stuff on really cold nights.

Ever have one of those nights where you just feel the cold coming up from the ground no matter what? Parkerp80 is right about that old foam, it's just solid. My fancy air pad is comfy but sometimes I swear I can feel every single air cell inside it turning into a little ice cube by 3 AM. That blue foam might be bulky and stiff, but it never pulls that trick on you.
