Split on sleeping pad thickness for rocky ground camps.
Thick pads ease sore backs but pack huge, thin ones save space but hurt, what's your pick?

The pack size thing isn't as black and white anymore. Some of the newer inflatable thick pads compress down REALLY well. Giving up sleep for space is a bad trade on rough ground.

Totally, and it's a whole thing now where we don't have to sacrifice comfort for space in so many areas.

No way, they compress down that well? My old inflatable pad is a monster in my pack. I need to see this to believe it.
