The pillow trick that saved my back on a 10-day trip

I was having trouble sleeping in my tent because my camping pillow would flatten out by midnight. After three nights of waking up with a sore neck, I tried stuffing my clothes inside the pillowcase to give it more support. It worked perfectly and I didn't have to buy one of those expensive inflatable ones. Has anyone else found a simple fix like this for sleeping better outdoors?

Ugh the flat pillow problem. I feel this so hard. My neck is basically a pretzel after one night on a sad, squished pillow. I actually brought a full size memory foam one from home for a week long trip once. Genius idea except it took up half my pack and I looked like a turtle carrying its house. The clothes trick is way smarter. I'll try that next time instead of hauling around a mattress slice.

Wait, am I the only one who actually likes flat pillows? I know I'm a weirdo but hear me out. A squished pillow is way better for side sleeping because it keeps your spine straight. Those fluffy ones just push my head up at a weird angle and then my shoulder gets all cramped. I get why most people hate them though. If you're a back sleeper you're basically doomed with a flat pillow. Maybe the real hack is figuring out your sleep position first before trying to fix the pillow situation.
