Friend told me to rewatch Twin Peaks before The Return dropped and I shrugged it off for 2 years
Finally watched season 3 last month after he bugged me about it for ages and now I get why he said the original run would make zero sense without seeing where Lynch was heading, anyone else have a show where skipping the original seasons ruined the revival for them?

Dude. I feel your pain. My buddy hounded me for years about The Leftovers. He swore I had to watch season 1 and 2 before season 3 came out. I ignored him. Then I watched season 3 first and it was like a fever dream I couldn't understand. Had to stop after two episodes. Went back, watched the whole show from the beginning. Night and day difference. Season 3 made sense emotionally. The character payoffs hit so much harder. You really messed up by waiting.

48 was the age I finally watched Twin Peaks from the start. My buddy literally mailed me a DVD set in 2018. I left it in the shrink wrap for 6 months. Then I binged the whole original run in a week and felt like an idiot for waiting. Season 3 would have been total gibberish without it. Guess I like learning things the hard way.

Why do shows have to be watched in order to really work though? I watched season 3 of Twin Peaks without seeing the original and honestly it felt like a cool weird dream that didnt need all the backstory to enjoy. @king.derek I gotta say The Leftovers season 3 works fine on its own if you just accept the weirdness and dont try to connect every dot. The mystery is the point not the homework.
