Just realized I was binging canceled shows on autopilot and missing half the plot because I was scrolling my phone the whole time
I caught myself doing it again last night during *The OA* and that's when it hit me that I'd been ruining my own revivals by not actually paying attention, anyone else guilty of this?

Wait hold on, you were watching The OA and scrolling through your phone at the same time? That show is so weird and layered, I can't imagine looking away for a second without missing something huge. I feel like half the magic of that show is the quiet little details that don't make sense until later. You gotta just put the phone down in another room or something. I've been so guilty of this with other shows too, especially stuff like Dark where every single frame matters.

It taps into this whole thing where we’re all half-living in two places at once now. You’re scrolling through your phone while a show is on, or you’re at dinner with someone but checking your email, or you’re walking down the street with headphones in and a map app open. Nobody is fully present anywhere anymore. I see it at the grocery store all the time, people on their phones while they’re checking out, not even looking the cashier in the eye. It’s like we’re scared of being bored for five minutes, so we keep half our attention on something else just in case. And then we wonder why shows feel flat or why we don’t remember most of what we watched.
