Tried fixing a cracked dash with a $9 repair kit, now my car smells like burned rubber
I followed the YouTube tutorial in my driveway in Phoenix last weekend, the patch looked great for about 20 minutes, then the heat made it bubble up and the adhesive started smoking, so now I'm wondering if a $300 junkyard dash is actually the cheaper option or if I should just tape a towel over it and call it a day, has anyone else had a repair kit backfire this bad?

120 degrees in Phoenix will melt about anything that says "automotive grade" on the package, so that kit never stood a chance. You paid $9 for a science experiment and got exactly what the label should've warned you about. Tape a towel down with some duct tape and save the $300 for something that actually matters, like new wiper blades.
