A jobsite in Salem taught me to stop trusting laser levels blindly
Last fall I was setting cabinet runs in a renovated school in Salem and my green laser kept drifting about 3/16 over 30 feet. I rechecked it twice, blamed the floor, blamed the brackets, even blamed the coffee. Turns out the laser itself was fine but the tripod head had a hairline crack that flexed when the sun hit it. Contractor walked over and said "your line looks low on the left" and I almost argued until I pulled a string line across. Now I always do a chalk snap check at the start of any long run, takes two minutes and saves a full day of tear out. Any of you guys had a tool failure that looked like a measuring mistake at first?
