Hit 15 years in the trade and the number hit me different

I always thought the big deal was hitting 10 years, and after that it was just more of the same. But last week, I was updating my insurance and had to write down '15 years' as my experience. It stopped me cold. That's over half my life now, and it made me think about all the stuff I've built that's still standing. My first real solo job was a deck for a neighbor in Tacoma, and I drove past it last fall and it's still solid. I guess I never saw myself as the 'old hand' on a site, but now the new guys ask me stuff and I actually have answers. Has anyone else had a year mark sneak up and change how you see your own work?

Was 10 years the big one for you too? I felt the same way until I hit 15 and realized I'd been doing it longer than I hadn't.

Hit ten years and felt like a seasoned pro, like I'd unlocked some life achievement. Then I did the math and realized my favorite coffee mug is older than that. Now every milestone just reminds me how long I've been using the same bad passwords.

My friend's password was literally "password123" for 12 years.
