I finally saw what 30 years of wood movement looks like in one frame

I was framing out a basement in St. Louis last week and the homeowner showed me a picture of his dad standing in front of the same wall in 1992. The whole window frame had shifted a solid half inch to the left from seasonal swelling and settling over the decades. Anybody else ever put a level on old work and just stand there thinking about all the weather that wall has seen?

Thirty years of weather will do that to any wall, not much you can do about it besides stand there and respect the sheer stubbornness of the house.

Thirty years?! Wait, hold on @leelewis, are you telling me that wall has been standing there through thirty full years of rain and snow and everything? That is genuinely wild to me, I would have guessed maybe ten or fifteen max just from how straight it still looks in the picture. I guess that house is way tougher than it looks at first glance, that's just respect earned right there for sure.
