Old timer told me to stop using my framing hammer for trim work

I was at a job site in Dayton last month and a guy who's been doing this since the 70s pulled me aside. He said my framing hammer was wrecking the miters on some crown molding I was putting up. I thought he was being picky, but I switched to a 7-ounce finish hammer and my joints fit way tighter now. Anyone else had to learn this the hard way or is it just me?

Can't believe you stuck with a framing hammer on crown molding.

Gotta push back a little here @parker_thomas, it's really not that deep. I've been using the same old 20oz Estwing on everything from door casing to baseboard for like 15 years now and never had a problem. Yeah a finish hammer would be nicer, but if you're careful and set your nails right with the right angle, it works fine. People get way too caught up in having the perfect tool for every tiny job.
