Put $200 into a cheap router and it almost burned my shop down

I bought this no-name router off Amazon back in February for like $200. It worked fine for a couple months then last week I smelled something real bad. Looked over and the cord was literally melting into the outlet. I got lucky I was standing right there. Anyone else had a close call with cheap tools?

Man the cord literally melting into the outlet thing gives me chills. I bought a $180 router off some random site and same thing happened except it started smoking before I could even unplug it. Just not worth saving a few bucks on stuff that plugs into the wall.

The fire risk alone makes cheap electronics a hard pass for me. A few dollars saved isn't worth watching your wall socket turn black and start smoking. Stick with known brands or at least stuff that has actual safety certs on it.
