PSA: Found a trick for carpet seams at the Home Depot on 34th street

I was watching a contractor repair a seam near the carpet display and he used a hot glue gun to tack down the edges before stretching. It saved him from dealing with the tape shifting on a tricky pattern match. Anyone tried this method on commercial carpet jobs?

Oh come on, hot glue on carpet seams is just asking for a nightmare down the road. Once that stuff hardens it'll crack and leave you with a bigger gap than tape ever would.

Hot glue on carpet seams is a hack I see more often now, but I wonder about the long term effect on the backing material. Does it stay flexible enough when the carpet gets stretched later, or does it make the edges brittle and cause a gap down the road? Also, did your contractor use a low temp glue stick or a high temp one, because that might matter for how it holds without melting the yarn. Curious if anyone has had to rip up a glue job that went wrong, or if it holds up better than tape on high traffic stuff.
