Just tried store brand canned tomatoes for chili and it was a disaster

Picked up a 99 cent can of Great Value crushed tomatoes last week for my chili recipe. Turned out watery and almost metallic tasting, ruined the whole pot of food I spent 3 hours on. Lesson learned: pay the extra 50 cents for Cento or Hunt's if you want actual tomato flavor without the aftertaste. Anybody else had a store brand fail that cost you a whole meal?

Three bucks wasted on Kirkland organic black beans last month - mushy as baby food and no texture at all. Makes you wonder what they're actually putting in those cheap cans.
