Vent: I spent 4 bucks on jarred pasta sauce for 2 years before my roommate showed me the $1.20 can
Watched my roommate in our Toledo apartment dump a 79 cent can of crushed tomatoes into a pan with garlic and olive oil, and it tasted better than the $3.99 jar I kept buying. Two years of paying triple for sauce that was mostly water and sugar, and the kicker is a can plus a 50 cent onion feeds us both for under two bucks. Now I want to know what other basics I am overpaying for, so what is the one cheap swap that made you feel dumb for not doing it sooner?
Read a thing once about how boxed store brand pasta is like a third the price of the fancy stuff and comes from the same plants. Started buying the 89 cent boxes and honestly cannot tell the difference in a baked ziti. Same deal with spices, those little $5 jars at the grocery store are a joke. Hit the bulk bins or the international aisle and pay like a buck for twice as much. My mom still buys the name brand ones and I just keep my mouth shut at her house.
