Pro tip: a wet rag and a bucket of water saved my whole day on a job in Springfield

Was cleaning out a massive old fireplace yesterday, the kind with a ton of old soot and dust. Started to get that fine black powder everywhere, all over the client's nice rug... I remembered a guy at a trade show in St. Louis years ago saying to keep a wet rag handy. Dampened it down and wiped up as I went, and it trapped all the dust before it could spread. Made the final cleanup take maybe 15 minutes instead of an hour. Anyone else have a simple trick like that for keeping a job clean?

Works like a charm. I keep a spray bottle with water and a few microfiber cloths in my tool bag for that exact reason. Catches all the fine dust before it settles.

Yeah that's the move right there. I'll even add a tiny bit of dish soap to the water, just a drop, makes the cloth grab the dust way better without leaving streaks.

Man it's crazy how much of a difference a little prep makes for stuff like this. I swear half the battle with any home project is just having the right gear ready before you even start.
