Stopped by an old schoolhouse job and the flue liners were still original
I had a call out in rural Ohio last month, a 1920s schoolhouse turned into a residence. The owner wanted me to check the chimney before they fired up the wood stove for the first time. When I pulled the cap off, the original clay tile liners were still in place, no cracks, no crumbles, just dusty after 100 years. It got me thinking about how much I take modern stainless steel for granted. Has anyone else run into old clay liners that just refuse to die?
Found one in a farmhouse from the 40s last spring that was still in perfect shape. I mean, these old tiles just sit there and do their job forever. Makes you wonder if we're overthinking it with all the fancy stainless stuff these days.
