TIL you can call 311 about a streetlight and they actually fix it, took 3 tries though
I used to think calling 311 about a busted streetlight on my block was a total waste of time, mostly because everyone in my neighborhood group chat said the city never does anything unless you bug them forever. So I just walked past the dark corner at 9th and Pine for almost 5 months, dodging potholes and hoping nobody tripped. Then my neighbor Rosa told me the trick is to get a ticket number on the first call and the address has to match the pole number stamped near the base, not just the cross streets. First call, nothing for 3 weeks. Second call, they said a crew came out but marked it "no problem found." Third call I gave them the pole number and two days later the light was on. Turns out the old me was wrong, it's not that the city ignores you, it's that you have to give them the exact pole ID or the ticket dies in the system. Has anyone else had luck with 311 for street stuff, or do you just go straight to the ward office?
