Made the switch from gas to induction last month
I had to choose between a new gas stove and an induction model for my apartment in Denver. Went with the induction despite loving gas for years. Now my electric bill dropped $22 already anyone else make this swap?

Hang on, is that $22 drop just from switching stoves or did you change other stuff too? I'm curious because my gas bill here in Chicago is brutal in winter and I keep eyeing induction but people say the electric spike cancels out the savings. You gotta tell me if you also swapped out your old fridge or something, because that seems like a big jump from just a cooktop. Denver has pretty cheap electric rates compared to some places, right? I'd need to see the math broken down before I take the plunge.

Drove by a house last month that had an induction setup on a generator outside during a power outage, which was weird but got me thinking. My buddy in Portland switched to induction last year and his bills barely changed because he also started baking bread all the time, so it's hard to tell what's what. Your mileage may vary on the math, for sure.

Yeah for sure, the baking thing throws off the comparison completely. A buddy of mine did the switch and his bill actually went up like 15 bucks but he was also running the oven every evening for sourdough, so who knows what's the stove and what's the hobby. I think the real test is if you're just cooking normal meals and not changing your habits. The generator outside thing is interesting though, induction pulls a lot of power all at once so you'd need a pretty hefty generator to handle it without tripping. Makes me wonder if that house had some big solar setup too or something.
