Saw a plastic straw graveyard at my local coffee shop in Portland
I counted 47 used straws in the trash can during my 10 minute wait for a latte, which got me thinking about how many of those end up in rivers nearby. Has anyone else noticed businesses switching to paper straws actually making a dent or are we just fooling ourselves?
I remember reading about that one time where a single straw got stuck up a sea turtle's nose, and it broke my heart (like seriously, that video is hard to watch). It's easy to feel like these small changes don't matter, but they really do add up when millions of people start doing them. I switched to metal straws about two years ago, and honestly I don't even miss plastic ones. Every little bit helps, even if it feels tiny sometimes. You're not alone in feeling this way, and it's good to see people caring about the big picture.
