Shoutout to the old crawler crane manuals

That moment when you're off by like six inches on a 50 ton pick and suddenly your load chart is lying to you. I remember one job where this guy guesstimated a 12 foot radius on a 30 ton crane, turned out it was actually 14 feet, and the whole rig started leaning forward like it was bowing to the load. He got it back down but there was a moment where everyone just froze and stared. Never seen a foreman go from red to white that fast. Scary stuff.

Just went to an AI art gallery in Portland and walked out confused

Question whether the prompt and the final choice really count as "creating" or if it's just really advanced shopping. You picked the prompt from a list in your head, the machine did the heavy lifting, and you just said "that one" at the end. Isn't that closer to commissioning a piece than actually making it? The real artist is the person who trained the model on millions of stolen paintings, not the person typing a sentence. It feels like we're giving credit for the idea but ignoring the actual craft that went into every brushstroke of those training images. What's the line between being a curator and being an artist when the only physical effort is clicking print?

Found out my local library offers free museum passes after I paid $45 at the door

Right?! Ugh, the exact same thing happened to me. I was so excited to get a museum pass from my library, drove all the way downtown, and found out it only worked on a Thursday afternoon when half the exhibits were closed for cleaning. The pass literally said "general admission only" in tiny print, so no special exhibits or the big dinosaur hall my kids were hyped for. And then I was stressed the whole time about getting it back on time because the late fee was like $10 a day! I ended up paying $45 for a normal ticket anyway later that week and had a way better time.

Switched from hand digging post holes to a skid steer auger last spring

Man, it's just digging holes, not open heart surgery.

Walked into a new prep station at a diner in Portland and saw someone peeling carrots with a paring knife

YES! That's exactly right. I took a shortcut through a parking lot once and it saved me like 15 minutes of sitting in traffic.
