The community garden on my block in Dayton just put in 12 rain barrels
I walked past it on my way to the bus and counted them all hooked up to the downspouts, catching roof runoff for the beds instead of letting it hit the storm drain. Anybody else seen a small project like that pop up near them this spring?
Twelve barrels is a solid haul. My own rain barrel setup is one sad pickle bucket under a gutter that mostly catches leaves and mosquitoes. I keep telling myself I will build a real system every spring and then somehow end up at the hardware store buying something totally unrelated. Roof runoff going to the beds instead of the storm drain is just plain smart, free water and less flooding all at once. Dayton folks are ahead of me on this one.
