Snapped a 1/2 inch end mill on a titanium job yesterday
I was running a production part on a DMG Mori and pushed the feed too hard trying to save 30 seconds per cycle. The tool let go mid-cut and sent a chunk of carbide into the chip tray. Anyone else had a spectacular tool failure that taught you to slow down?

Hear that sound and you NEVER forget it. I was hogging out a slot in some stainless with a 3/4 rougher and got too cocky with the stepover. That thing snapped like a twig and the shank flew clean across the shop, bounced off a tool cabinet, and nearly took out my coffee mug. My boss just looked at me and said "hope that cycle time savings was worth it" - sarcastic bastard. Had to spend the next hour digging fragments out of the vise jaws with a magnet.

Learned that lesson the hard way with a broken insert screaming across the shop floor.

Man that exact sound is burned into my memory too, @finleyf88. Had a carbide end mill let go last year and the piece hit my safety glasses so hard it left a mark. My ears were ringing for an hour after. The worst part is you know it's your fault for getting greedy with depth of cut or feed rate, but it's still terrifying when it happens. Did you ever find out what caused yours to fail?
