Dropped my whole pour over setup on the floor last Sunday
I was making my morning coffee at home around 7 AM and had just finished blooming the grounds when my cat jumped onto the counter. Knocked the whole Chemex and carafe onto the tile floor. Glass everywhere, coffee all over the cabinets. I swept it up, let the floor dry, and just used a French press instead. Anyone else have a coffee accident that ruined your whole morning routine?

Honestly, "ruined your whole morning routine" seems a bit dramatic for breaking some glass and switching to a French press... that’s what backups are for, right? If a spilled coffee and a little cleanup throws off your entire day, maybe the problem isn’t the accident itself but how much weight you put on one specific brewing method. Coffee is still coffee, and the French press probably made a better cup anyway.

I actually just read a study that said morning routines affect our sense of control for the rest of the day, so I get why people get bent out of shape over little stuff like this. Even if coffee is just coffee, the ritual of making it the same way every day can be weirdly grounding. Breaking your usual setup can feel like a bigger loss than it is because it's a disruption to that predictable start. That said, I agree that maybe it's not the end of the world lol. French press coffee is usually stronger and oilier, which is a win in my book. Still, I think it's fair to be annoyed for a minute before moving on.
