My morning brew turned into a total mess yesterday

I was making my usual pot and the entire carafe just shattered on the counter. It was a Bodum French press I've had for about three years. Glass went everywhere and I had to clean it up for almost an hour before work. Has anyone else had a glass press pot fail like this out of the blue?

Same thing happened with my old press. I switched to a stainless steel one and haven't had to worry about glass since.

Oh man, that sounds like a rough start to the day. The_kai has a point about steel, but then you miss seeing the coffee bloom. Guess it's a trade-off.

Hold up, glass is way better than metal. A steel press makes the coffee taste weird, like you can almost taste the metal. Glass is totally neutral and lets you see the brew, which is half the fun. My glass one is going strong after five years, so maybe it was just a bad unit or a tiny crack you didn't see. I'd buy another glass one in a heartbeat.
